Tardiness

Mon Jan 5, 2009, 5:38 AM
Hi there,

I must apologize, I have been very crap lately with DA. My PhD took over most of 2008 and whilst I expect it to do the same in 2009 I hope very soon to get some new images up again and be part of the community once more!

I have done a lot of traveling and have to wade through 1000's of photos! In the meantime I won a runner up at a photo competition at my university and you can see my image Volcanic Textures at:

Hello there!

I am so sorry I have been away for a long time, but I have stacks of photos to post up. These will cover everything from Alaska, Volcanoes, Government buildings to gigs, and some random shots of this and that! I hope you like them.

I have been fairly busy cracking on with my PhD research and have been away doing some fieldwork. Photography has been taking a bit of a back burner, which was never my intention when starting the PhD, so I hope now to pick it up again now that things are a little bit more settled!

A Long Time

Thu Jan 18, 2007, 2:45 PM
My apologies, it has been a long time since I last entered a journal. This has been due to a number of changes in my life, namely leaving work in the City in order to go to University College London to study for a PhD. My PhD is looking at alternative early warning systems for volcanic eruptions, which I study at the Benfield Hazard Research Centre at UCL.
2006 was a complicated year for me, much like a roller coaster ride, so I hope 2007 will be a bit smoother!

I also now have a wonderful partner, who has filled my life with all the things I thought would never happen to me. He has become such a tremendous pillar of support in my life which previously often seemed lonely and difficult.

Sadly photography has been slow whilst I have been balancing settling into my new lifestyle, having a partner (in Bristol, often commuting to and fro) and lastly just getting on top of everything!

There are still a number of photos to go up though! A few more of my wonderful trip to Ireland in the summer and various others. I feel I need to go on another course soon to keep me going!

There will of course I hope, be some great shots of volcanoes to come though, so watch this space!

This Sunday I turn 26, it sounds quite old, but I guess I have done and achieved a lot for my time, there is plenty more though to come...

Love Carina x

Architecture and Fine Art

Fri Dec 30, 2005, 2:42 AM
Hello all,

As the New Year approaches I feel like this year has been so crazy! So many things have changed and will continue to do so. I have also learnt so much, I have been doing photography for just over a year now. I recently studied a course at Central St. Martins on Architectural Photography and Fine Art. As a scientist this opened a whole world to me. Conceptualism, modernism and architecture are all new interests. I learnt a lot and have much to investigate and broaden my horizons. I think 2006 will be a year where I start to explore photography as a fine art also. I feel I need to explore myself next year and develop my own style.

Anyhow some of the work you have seen already, but some of my better photos taken for my project will go up here. There are two sections to the work. One was a study of thr architecture of light’ where I explored how buildings interact with light. The other project, the main one was based on the National Theatre here in London. The building was designed by Sir Denys Lasdun with the primary aim for the creation of forms which serve life while responding to the special conditions of each site in countryside or city. The building creates a relaxed and democratic monumentality which are idealised through the interplay of Geometry, Light, Material and the Landscape. These four fundamentals were the basis of my work which explored these areas.

The work varies from black and white film, cross processing slide to negative and digital. A number of images have been inversed (to show the negative) which helps show details that would otherwise be hidden in darkness. This in itself is a concept I am going to explore more.

Anyway I hope you like and enjoy the work!

Happy New Year!
